Case Studies

Lingard Ltd have recently stemmed major water infiltration into a newly constructed waste water pipeline for Yorkshire Water.

The 80m long waste water sewer connecting primary to final settlement tanks is constructed from 2.4m diameter PC rings with the joints sealed using traditional caulking.

Attempts had been made to seal the leaking joints with rapid settling cement and bitumen putty, however, the sewer was still flooding with ground water infiltration and even more concerning risk of waste effluent leaking into adjacent ground.

The long-term solution offered to Yorkshire Water was overbanding of joints using Sikadur Combiflex Hypalon Rubber System.

The existing jointing system was left in place and the PC concrete surfaces approximately 150mm either side of the joint mechanically prepared to remove all laitance and contaminants. Sikadur Combiflex was then bedded into Sikadur 31 epoxy adhesive and heat welded at the junction to form a totally watertight joint capable of resisting up to 3bar pressure. This system is also suitable for use in contact with potable water.
